What does the Malta MPRP actually cost?
€37,000 government contribution if you buy property (or €60,000 if you rent), plus a €40,000 administration fee, a €2,000 NGO donation, and either €375,000 minimum property purchase or €14,000 per year rental for five years. Family additions are extra.
How long does the application take?
Four to six months from initial submission, including Maltese background and source of wealth checks. Malta runs one of the most thorough due diligence processes in the EU, so a clean, well documented file shortens the timeline materially.
Is this EU citizenship?
No. MPRP grants permanent EU residency, not citizenship. Malta does have a separate citizenship by naturalisation route for exceptional services, but it operates under different rules and a much higher cost base.
Can I work in Malta with MPRP?
MPRP is a residency permit, not an automatic work permit. You can live in Malta indefinitely, but if you want to take local employment you would need separate authorisation. Many investors operate businesses from outside Malta and use MPRP for the residency status only.
What are the financial requirements?
